Is PCAT BLOCK C Organic Compost really as effective as synthetic fertiliser?+
They do different jobs — and they work best together. Synthetic fertiliser feeds one crop, once; Block C rebuilds the soil itself: balancing pH, holding moisture through dry spells, and restoring microbial life, so every input you add works harder. Many farmers use Block C as the base and a reduced fertiliser top-up — cutting their total input bill while the soil improves season after season. Block C was the soil-and-moisture core of the SCIT trials in Chirumanzu, where the integrated system reached up to 18 t/ha of maize. How do I pay, and can I pay from outside Zimbabwe?+

How much compost do I need?+
It depends on your crop, your soil and your bed size. The best-documented Zimbabwean range is 20–30 tonnes per hectare of compost for heavy feeders like cabbage. Our free guide 'How much compost do you need?' in the Knowledge Hub lists the cited rates crop by crop, shows how to convert tonnes per hectare into 50L bags for your actual bed size, and includes a quick calculator. Or simply message us on WhatsApp with your crop and land size and we'll advise. For field crops, you don't broadcast — you spot-apply. Block C was proven in the SCIT system using compost-filled planting stations, the same per-station method used in Pfumvudza/Intwasa. Spot application treats the root zone only, so a hectare needs a fraction of the broadcast volume, and the benefit carries into following seasons. Recommended per-station rates are being finalised with PCAT/HIT and will publish here.
Do I still need to add lime?+
In most Zimbabwean soils, no. PCAT BLOCK C gently raises and balances pH as it breaks down — exactly what our acidic soils need, without the cost and harshness of lime. If a soil test shows extreme acidity, talk to us first and we will advise honestly. This is based on SCIT field results; independent pH confirmation is under way and will publish here.

Where does PCAT BLOCK C Organic Compost come from?+
PCAT BLOCK C was developed by Power Conservation Agri-Clinic Trust (PCAT) and incubated at the Harare Institute of Technology — the brainchild of one of the institute's lead engineers. It was proven in the field as the soil-and-moisture core of the SCIT conservation-irrigation project. We're finalising independent analysis now and publish our methods and results honestly as they're confirmed.
Is PCAT BLOCK C suitable for tobacco?+
Our SCIT field validation covers maize, soya and horticulture — not tobacco or potatoes — so we don't make tobacco-specific yield claims. Block C still builds and balances any soil; for tobacco, message us and we'll be straight about what we do and don't yet have data for.
Can I use Block C alongside conventional fertiliser, or does it replace it?+
Both. Block C rebuilds the soil so it holds nutrients and water; many farmers use it as the base and top up with a smaller amount of fertiliser, which then works far harder. You don't have to choose.
Is Block C registered with Zimbabwe's Department of Soil and Chemistry?+
We're finalising independent lab analysis and formal registration now. We'll show the paperwork here the moment it's confirmed — we won't claim a registration we don't yet hold.
How does Block C compare to Orgfert or other organic-enriched blends?+
Like other organic blends, Block C returns organic matter and nutrients to the soil. What sets it apart is that it's field-proven on Zimbabwean soil in the SCIT trials and built to balance pH without lime. Full side-by-side NPK comparisons follow as soon as our independent lab data returns.

What makes this different from farmyard or kraal manure?+
Raw kraal manure is variable, can carry weed seeds, and can burn young crops if used fresh. Block C is composted, sieved clean and standardised, so you get consistent quality and can apply it with confidence.
